Remembering valor and sacrifice

National D-Day Memorial

The National D-Day Foundation recognizes the contributions of the American workforce as a key element in victory during World War II. In that spirit, it invited the UAW Local 2069 Veterans Committee to sponsor a labor movement plaque at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va.

The UAW chose Rosie the Riveter as the natural icon of that era. Accompanying her image on the plaque is a narrative by the D-Day Foundation about the labor movement, the UAW Veterans seal with the words “So Proudly We Served” and these dedication lines:

The membership of the United Auto Workers across this great land recognizes the
commitment, contributions and spirit of the American workforce as a key element in the Allied victory in World War II. Given on Veterans Day 2008 by the Veterans Committee of UAW Local 2060, Dublin, Va.
