Local 686 retirees mark 18 years of giving

VOLUNTEERS FIND REWARD IS IN DISHING UP DINNERS

For 18 years UAW Local 686 Delphi retirees Wayne Wager, photo left, Al Sammarco, center, and John Rinaldo have volunteered to dish up Thanksgiving dinners at a Lockport, N.Y., Salvation Army soup kitchen.

Formerly of General Motors’ Harrison Radiator Division, the retirees each year leave their homes and dinner tables to ensure hungry community residents get a hot holiday meal. The reward, the men agree, is being able to help those in need. Their efforts recently gained them special recognition from UAW Region 9 Director Joe Ashton, fellow union members and the community.

“We’re always proud of and inspired by the generosity of our active and retired members and the contributions they make whether they are on the job or helping in the community,” Ashton said.

On Thanksgiving Day, Chuck Maynard, Local 686 vice president, top photo third from left, also pitched in to help serve 600 families a turkey dinner.
