Joint conference delegates picket at Avery Heights Nursing Home with SEIU strikers.

Presentations and discussions took place around trade issues, organizing, grievance handling, and arbitration procedure as Region 9A activists met at the Hilton Hartford in May.

In addition to the business of the annual Joint Conference, delegates also joined the picket line at the Avery Heights Nursing Home in West Hartford, Conn. where SEIU Local 1199 health care workers have been on strike for many, many months.

For some of our younger members, this was the first time they ever walked a picket line, but their reactions were the same as any seasoned veteran’s would be when they saw scabs starting to roll in.

The education at this joint conference went beyond the classroom and into the field. It was an inspiring and learning experience for all who attended.
