| Local 677 retiree Raymond Roth (seated center) is honored by his union brothers, Carl Breininger, Paul Brown, Chuck Fenstermaker, and Eugene McCafferty (seated). |
Some 37 years after he retired, Raymond Roth is still alive and kicking.
And celebrating his 102nd birthday with him were his union sisters and brothers, including Carl C. Breininger, president of UAW Local 677 in Macungie, Pa.
During their visit to Roths home, the Local 677 delegation presented him with a plaque on which the new Mack Truck Bulldog insignia was inscribed with Happy 102nd Birthday Raymond Roth, Local 677 UAW.
Eugene McCafferty, past local union president and current chairperson of the UAW Local 677 Retiree Chapter, also presented Roth with a Region 9 retiree pin.
Roth worked at Mack Trucks for nearly 46 years, beginning March 19, 1918, and retiring at age 65, on Dec.1, 1963.
President Breininger and Vice President Paul Brown took Roth for a three-hour tour of the Mack Truck Macungie facility where his union brothers and sisters at the plant gave him a warm welcome.
On another note, President Breininger mentioned the importance of neutrality letters in todays collective bargaining contracts. He states, So far under the neutrality letter in our Mack Truck agreement, Local 677 has organized 160 new union members at our Mack Re-man Unit in 1994 and 12 new members in sales and billing at Mack World Headquarters in 1999. We are in the process of organizing four more workers at the Mack Re-man Center with a possibility of more to follow.
