| Local 94 member Bill Folger with his Friend of Education award. |
When Local 94 member Bill Folger isnt at his third shift job at the John Deere Dubuque Works, you will usually find him at Jefferson Junior High School, serving as a mentor to students. Bill is one of four Deere employees here who mentors students at the school.
Recently, Bill was honored with the Iowa State Education Associations Friend of Education Award.
The teacher who nominated Bill for this award said, Without his support and willingness to give of his own time, these students would have continued to struggle, and success would have been almost impossible to achieve.
When the mentoring program started around 1995, Bill was one of the first to sign up. Being able to work with young people is something Bill has always wanted to do. Working with kids is my passion. Its what I enjoy doing more than anything else, Bill says. I want to do this until I cant stand up anymore.
Bill Folger is another great example of union members making a difference in their community.
