Golf tournament raises $6,000 for scholarship funds

An event that began as a way for a few people looking to honor the memory of a friend and union leader has grown into a non-profit organization that raises thousands of dollars. The 8th Annual Fred Meyers Golf Tournament raised over $6,000 in July to help UAW members’ spouses or dependent children in the Flint area to further their education.

The Fred Meyers Scholarship Fund hosts two major events a year to raise money. One is the golf tournament. The other is a bowling tournament in January.

This past year, the scholarship committee awarded $3,000 in scholarships to four students who were attending Flint area colleges.
