Retiree chapter report
Oil price increases go to fund Bush campaign

With 2000 being a very important political year, most of the conversation at the recent Region 1C CAP meeting centered on politics.

As retirees, we are involved in many political activities, such as, trying to convince our congressional representatives that something has to be done about gas prices. The high price of fuel affects everyone, especially retirees who heat with it.

A few years ago, America was involved in the Persian Gulf conflict. Now it seems that every time gas goes up 10 or 15 cents a gallon, the Bush Jr. campaign fund goes up $10-15 million dollars.

I really believe this is our money. I also feel these gas price increases are phony and might, by the end of the summer, tear our country apart. A continued rise will have a direct affect on people buying trucks and large cars and on the cost of transportation.

We have also been pushing for a co pay of $5 on all prescriptions. This will cut the cost of medicine for all seniors.

retiree chapter chairperson
