A picture is worth a thousand words
At 83, Charlie White, one of our fighting forefathers from the 1936-37 Great Sitdown Strike, continues to fight the battles of present day politics.
His lectures often center around how important it is for the membership to keep closely in touch with the political issues that affect their livelihoods.
Throughout his dedicated service to the UAW, Charlie wrote many articles and was also a talented political cartoonist. His earliest cartoon from 1938 depicts the unjust distribution of surplus potatoes that were fed to hogs instead of hungry workers and their families. During his working years, Charlie never hesitated to ridicule management or poke fun at an arrogant foreman. In the 1970s, President Richard Nixon was a favorite target.
Much of his quick wit and talent as an artist will remain a treasured part of our history.
