Assistant Director's Report
We Must Look at the Big Picture
Many recent discussions with local union members and leadership have centered around why labor has not been able to pass laws to benefit working people. Sensitivities often set in around issues like gun control or abortion. But what issue do most members think is most important? I think it’s jobs.
Why haven’t we been successful then in getting majority support from our federal and state legislators? Too many of them care more about big business than working people and the well-being of our country.
We need to come together for our children’s sake. We must think of their future and not let single issues blind us from seeing the big picture. If we set the right priorities, we can elect legislators who share our goals.
In coming months, pay close attention to candidates and where they stand on issues such as maintaining good jobs here. When it’s time for CAP to issue endorsements, job security will be one of our top priorities.
If you are not registered to vote—do so at once. Voting can be an awesome power, but only if we use it.
