Thats No Screeching Cat

| Al Childers, left, from Local 5960, participated in the 2000 Labor Day parade in Detroit. |
From time to time somewhere in our plant, you will hear what some think is a cat screeching.
Well, thats not true. Actually its our own 25-year, Local 5960 member Al Childers practicing his bagpipes.
Childers is no ordinary piper. He is an award-winning piper. Recently in Saline at the Celtic Festival, Allan received a bronze medal for his Grade 4 March and a Silver Medal in the Piobairach competition. He won two bronze medals two years ago in the same competition.
Childers works in the Soft Trim Department at the GM Lake Orion Assembly plant on days and has been a musician most of his life, taking up bagpipes five years ago. He also teaches pipes and belongs to the Celtic Pipe and Drum band in Birmingham.
Childers has played for many different events including a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland, for a parade with 10,000 pipes and drums--a very historic event.
Childers lives in Waterford with his wife Debbie. They have two grown children, Aaron and Shayne, and twin grandsons.
The Childers are both very active in their church. Al also enjoys Bonsai gardening.
Anytime Local 5960 or our veterans group has asked, Al Childers has always been there to play for an event. The UAW and Local 5960 always appreciate members who volunteer their time and services.
Congratulations Brother Al and thanks for your help.
