Karaoke, politics big hits at region conference

Some 370 retirees and active members convened in Black Lake April 10-15 for what everyone is calling, “the greatest conference ever.”

Retirees attended educational sessions consisting of Community Action Program issues and general topics of interest to seniors, such as Social Security, loss of pensions and health care. New on this year’s agenda was a very popular physical fitness program.

Summer school delegates attended core classes and general sessions in the morning that included presentations by UAW President Ron Gettelfinger, Vice-Presidents Bob King and Cal Rapson and National CAP Director Dick Long.

After attending classes all day, everyone was glad to participate in evening events where they could spend time together and exchange ideas. Everyone loved sharing stories and good times, too.

Planned events included movie night, bingo night and something everyone cannot stop talking about — the first Region 9 American Idol Karaoke contest.
