Director's Report

Welcome to (an expanded) Region 9

On behalf of all the leadership and membership of Region 9, let me extend a warm welcome to all of our new members.

As you may know, at the 33rd UAW Constitutional Convention this past June, delegates voted to dissolve Region 2 and divide it among Regions 2B, 8 and 9.

Region 9 now includes New York west of the Hudson River, all of New Jersey and all of Pennsylvania, with the exception of four counties in the south central part of the state, which remain part of Region 8.

In early September, we held leadership meetings in Erie and Pittsburgh, Pa. These meetings gave us an opportunity to meet with the leadership of each of our new locals. Everyone had the chance to get to know each other and discuss issues of concern to all parties.

Leadership meetings like this are held in each area of the region every year. These meetings are an opportunity to give every local an update on all activities within Region 9.

The Region 9 area directors and retiree, CAP and Education directors presented reports. This is a great opportunity to get feedback on the needs of our members in every local.

In addition, we had a wonderful tour of the General Motors Stamping Plant in Pittsburgh, which is Local 544’s worksite. Local leadership there gave us a presentation that outlined plant operations from start of production to the finished product.

Thank you to all involved and once again welcome to the Region 9 family.
