Local union communicators honored for vital role
It isn't always easy being a local union communicator. It's a demanding job with a lot of responsibility.
In good times and in bad, local union communicators get the word out to the membership. They're responsible for the local papers and Web sites members turn to as trusted sources of communication.
And local UAW communicators have continued their important work despite those challenges, knowing the critical role they play in keeping our members informed and energized.
They gathered in August at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center in Onaway, Mich., for the 2008 UAW-Local Union Press Association (LUPA) Communications Conference.
They attended a week of classes in writing, editing, photography, video and Web design, and were recognized for their best work from 2007.
The first-place winners for general excellence were:

Pops Nudi Award: UAW Local 863 retiree Fred Taylor
The Alfred H. "Pops" Nudi Special Recognition Award honors longtime commitment to local union communications. Taylor has shown tireless dedication and longstanding commitment to labor communication as a photography instructor at LUPA conferences over the years, and as a beloved guide and mentor to countless LUPA delegates.
