Workers at 3 plants get wage hikes, increased pension
The UAW members at three Honeywell International facilities recently ratified a new-three-year contract with wage increases, lump-sum payments, increased pensions and maintained health care benefits with no additional cost to retirees through 2011.
Members of UAW Local 9 in South Bend, Ind., UAW Local 153 in Teterboro, N.J., and UAW Local 1508 in Green Island, N.Y., overwhelmingly approved the new contract, which expires May 3, 2011.
“The members showed outstanding solidarity during these negotiations,” said UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles, director of the union’s National Aerospace Department.
“They returned from the bargaining table with a contract that maintains important health care benefits and strong economic gains for our active and retired members.”
Eligible workers will receive 3 percent wage increases in 2007 and 2009; a 3 percent lump-sum bonus in 2008 and 2011; and a special one-time bonus of $500 in January 2008.
Also, the contract adds $1,000 to the existing tuition refund benefit, gives workers credited service lost due to layoff and significantly improves group insurance benefits and increases the company contribution to the 401(k) program.
The contract covers 310 Local 9 members at the Honeywell Aerospace South Bend plant who produce aircraft wheels, with steel and carbon brakes for commercial airliners and military jets.
Also covered are 102 Local 153 members at the Honeywell Avionics plant in New Jersey who produce controls, cockpit displays and automated test equipment for the military.
In Green Island, N.Y., 53 members of Local 1508 produce friction material for steel brakes.
“In today's climate, when the union is able to negotiate these large scale improvements for active and retired members it is without a doubt a great contract,” said Bob Ambrosini, Local 153 president.
