LOCAL 919 IN NORFOLK, VA.

Big-hearted local gets big honor

The members of UAW amalgamated Local 919 in Norfolk, Va., just keep giving and giving, and the good deeds are not going unnoticed.

The United Way of South Hampton Roads recently named the local its Labor Union of the Year.
“Our members have huge hearts and are quick to reach into their pockets to help out,” said Local 919 President Chris Kimmons. “It feels good that the community where we live and work understands Local 919 is a good citizen just trying to do what’s right.”

Local 919 members participate in campaigns benefiting local Boys and Girls Clubs, raising money for breast cancer and juvenile diabetes research, and donating to victims of natural
disasters. They also donate toys and food during holiday drives for South Hampton Road families.
