What’s in the Bag?

This season, wrap up something UAW-made

As you ponder your holiday shopping list, you may want to check it twice for gifts made by UAW members. Here are some ideas:

For the youngsters, check out some fun stuff made by UAW members in Illinois. There’s a Radio Flyer wagon (remember the cool red one you had as a child?) made by UAW Local 1066 members. (Buyer beware: The plastic wagons are made in China.)

In Ohio, Local 2024 members at Fabriform make sandboxes and playhouses for Fisher-Price.

For more creative hands and minds, try Testor hobby kits and supplies (including model cars and planes, finishing supplies and tools), made in Illinois by members of Local 1023.

Got a musician to buy for? In Michigan, members of Local 19 at Yamaha make piccolos, trumpets, trombones, saxophones and clarinets. In Indiana, Local 364 members at Vincent Bach make a host of brass instruments, from cornets and baritone horns to flugelhorns and tubas. They’re sold under Bach, Selmer USA, Buescher and Bundy brands. You could practically outfit a whole marching band with UAW-made horns.

If you’ve got deep pockets and love the links, Local 1404 members in Indiana make a great Toro golf cart. For sailors, Local 1404 folks at Riviera Cruiser, also in Indiana, can provide a pontoon boat.

When that first major snowstorm hits, you’ll wish you had a Murray snow blower made by Local 1621 members in Tennessee to help dig out your driveway.

Sports enthusiasts can take their swing with Powerbilt golf clubs and Louisville hockey sticks made by Local 251 members at the Hillerich & Bradsby plant in Wallaceburg, Ontario. (Be sure to ask for the ones made in Canada.)

For writing those thank-you notes, get some Scheaffer pens (one of the brands most valued by collectors) made in Iowa by members of UAW Local 1551.

Finally, after you’ve assembled those union-made toys, don’t forget the batteries. Members of UAW Local 1329 in Wisconsin make heavy-duty C, D and AA batteries for Rayovac.
