ZF Workers Raise UAW Flag

ZF Workers Raise UAW FlagWorkers at ZF Industries proudly raise the UAW flag on March 7 at their Northport, Ala., plant. At far left is UAW Vice President Bob King, who directs the union’s National Organizing Department. Last December the 260 workers who make axle assemblies for Mercedes-Benz voted overwhelmingly to join the UAW. They previously lost a bitter election by a 65-percent margin in January 1999.
Unlike the 1999 election, where workers faced a corporate terror campaign, the December election was held on a level playing field achieved with a voluntary neutrality agreement between the union and the company.
