Japanese Execs Take Pay Cut

Memo to American corporate executives: Pick up the clue phone from your Japanese counterparts.

The 25 directors of the Mazda Motor Corp. voted to cut their pay by 10 percent in sympathy with the 1,800 workers who were asked to take early retirements in March. Last year, the Hiroshima-based company said it was cutting its 22,000-person work force by 8 percent through voluntary retirements by white-collar workers.
