UAW Solidarity Letterbox

THANKFUL FOR COVERAGE
I would like to thank the UAW for our health coverage. My 7-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, and praise the Lord, the Lord has healed him. There is no sign of that disease in his body. The insurance covered everything from A to Z.

WHY OKAY THESE PROFITS?
I always look at the last page of Solidarity to see what items I should stay away from buying because of the company’s anti-unionism. I am quite confused though by the ad on the back of the March edition, the "Drive it with UAW pride" list. I understand that Mazdas, Nissans and Toyotas might be built in the USA by fellow union brothers and sisters.

However, you are endorsing people to go out and buy these UAW-made models even though the money goes back to foreign countries. Why is that? That really irritates me. I feel that we should not endorse any foreign country that is threatening my job security. I do understand that they are built by the UAW, but where does the money go back to?

UAW WASHERS ARE ECO-FRIENDLY
I am happy to be a newly minted member of the UAW via the Graphic Artists Guild’s affiliation last year. I was doubly pleased to see from the January-February, 2000 issue of Solidarity that the front loading (very efficient and eco-friendly) washer I bought last month is made by UAW workers as well.

CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE
I am a UAW Local 600 retiree out of the Ford Rouge plant in Dearborn, Mich. I was hired January 1935 and retired January 1976 with 41 years of seniority. The main reason I am writing is to give some knowledge to our newer members.

When the workers got word of receiving the $8,000 profit-sharing bonus recently, the media interviewed some members.

Some said that Ford was good to them. No one thanked the UAW. If it wasn’t for our union, they would not be receiving all of these good benefits. Brothers and sisters, let’s give credit where credit is due.
