Union Industries Show in Milwaukee features many UAW exhibits

The upcoming AFL-CIO Union Industries Show 2000 is a chance to see union-made products and services at their best, take home samples and giveaways, and maybe win a union-made product in a drawing.

This year’s show, open from May 5 to 8 at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee, Wis., will be packed with over 30 UAW exhibits including cars, trucks, appliances, pots and pans, and other items.

UAW exhibitors this time will include the Graphic Artists Guild (Local 3030), which affiliated with the UAW in 1999.

Miller Brewing, whose Milwaukee workforce belongs to UAW Local 9, will be highlighted, and Kohler and Local 833, from nearby Sheboygan, Wis., will showcase a semi-trailer full of their home improvement products.

Other UAW exhibitors will include the UAW’s joint programs with the Big Three auto companies, several UAW locals, and exhibits featuring products and services made by UAW members at Mack Truck, Navistar, Delta Dental, Dresser Equipment, Honeywell Autolite, Mitsubishi Motors, Saturn, Red Star Yeast, Frigidaire, Auto Alliance, NUMMI, Vollarath and others. Region 1C also plans to have an exhibit.

In addition to these UAW-centered exhibits, visitors can see what goes through a fire fighter’s mind as he or she enters a burning building, what is involved in producing special effects for a science fiction movie, and can tour displays featuring different trade and industrial unions.
