sheds light on the Night Shift

Will Durst

Livelyhood goes 24/7 in June with an all-new episode called Night Shift. Will Durst, nationally known humorist and host of the acclaimed public television series, travels the country and stays up all night to learn how and why more Americans work dusk to dawn jobs.

Night Shift takes Durst on a 60-minute late night journey to 10 cities where he gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the around-the-clock life of:

  • A young E.R. nurse who spends her nights saving lives in San Francisco;
  • Cross-country truckers from Chattanooga, Tenn.;
  • A single mother of four who is a third-shift production worker in Allentown, Pa.;
  • A Minnesota dairy farmer who comes home to milk the cows in the morning after working all night in an e-commerce warehouse, and many others.

One in five workers--20 million people--report to work at night. Livelyhood’s Night Shift reveals the benefits and allure of nighttime employment, exploring its impact on everything from family to sleep habits with extraordinary personal stories, interviews and commentary.

Night Shift premieres on PBS Friday, June 30 at 9 p.m. (EDT). Check your local listings or go to www.pbs.org/livelyhood in June to find out when Night Shift is showing on your PBS station.

Major funding for Livelyhood is provided by the UAW-DaimlerChrysler National Training Center.
