Ohio local helps Girls Scouts send sweets to our troops

The Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio (GSNEO) have a sweet idea: Send their tasty treats to our troops serving in conflicts overseas. UAW Local 1050, which represents more than 800 workers at Alcoa, Inc., in Cleveland, helped make doing their good deed a lot easier.

The local's Veterans Committee presented Girl Scout representatives with a check for $1,250 for their "Operation Sweet Appreciation" fund-raiser. Local 1050 took up collections from its members and was recognized as the largest contributor to this effort to support our troops. The GSNEO presented an award to Local 1050 for collecting the most donations in the 18 counties it represents at the local's September membership meeting
