Tropicana dealers file for union representation
ATLANTIC CITY – Dealers at Tropicana Casinos and Resorts today filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board for a union representation election. A strong majority of the approximately 1,000 dealers, dual-rate dealers, and keno and simulcast employees have signed union authorization cards requesting representation by the International Union, UAW.
“Dealers are standing together for fairness on the job,” said UAW Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Bunn, who directs the union’s Technical, Office and Professional Organizing Department. “We’re proud to stand with them.”
“Tropicana dealers have joined the thousands of other Atlantic City dealers who feel strongly about the benefits of belonging to a union,” said Joe Ashton, director of UAW Region 9, which includes New Jersey, Pennsylvania and upstate New York. “Almost every other group of casino workers has the protections of a union contract. Now it’s the dealers’ turn, and we’re happy to help them form their union.”
Earlier this year, strong majorities of dealers at Caesars, Trump Plaza and Bally’s in Atlantic City voted in favor of forming their own unions. The UAW currently represents about 6,000 gaming employees in Atlantic City, Detroit and Newport, R.I.
