UAW supports bipartisan Employee Free Choice Act
The bipartisan Employee Free Choice Act, introduced today in the United States Congress, “is a vital piece of legislation for American workers,” said UAW President Ron Gettelfinger.
“We need this bill to restore fairness and balance to the American workplace,” said Gettelfinger. “For too long, employers have routinely interfered in the union organizing process, unfairly stalled bargaining and illegally retaliated against union supporters with little or no penalty.”
“You can't have a genuine democratic election when your boss is threatening to fire you or shut down your workplace if you vote the ‘wrong’ way. It's time for employers to stay out of union elections, so workers have a real opportunity to make up their own minds.”
