Rally in Atlantic City on June 21 about fairness, justice for casino workers
Suppose for an instant you voted in your local election and your candidate won by a large majority. Now suppose someone just arbitrarily decided there's no need to respect your vote.
It doesn't say much for democracy, does it? But that's what has happened in Atlantic City, N.J., where thousands of casino workers have voted to join the UAW, but management at four casinos refuses to honor the result.
However, casino workers will never toss in their hand. They're going to rally in that resort city on June 21 to let management know it's time to get off the dime, recognize the results certified by the National Labor Relations Board and get on with bargaining first contracts in good faith.
You can help by joining the thousands of workers and their supporters at the rally, which will feature casino workers, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger, UAW Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Bunn, UAW Region 9 Director Joe Ashton, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and many others.
Since March 2007 casino workers organized and won six union representation elections at four major Atlantic City casinos: Caesars, Trump Plaza, Bally's and Tropicana. It's time to let them know that when someone in the United States votes, the results have to mean something. That something here is a voice for casino workers and dignity and fairness in the workplace.
