NYU worker delegation to ask NLRB to decide on right to form union

NEW YORK -- On Friday, Feb. 3, a busload delegation of 50 New York University (NYU) graduate student workers and supporters will travel to Washington to ask the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to restore their rights under federal law to have democracy in their workplace.

University of Minnesota graduate assistants advance union drive

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Tuesday, Jan. 17, University of Minnesota graduate assistants took two key steps forward in their union-building drive.

On the University’s Minneapolis campus, a letter was delivered to the office of University President Eric Kaler early Tuesday morning. The letter invited the University to join with a majority of its 4,500 graduate research and teaching assistants to file a petition for union recognition with the State Bureau of Mediation Services (BMS).

DETROIT -- The UAW-Ford National Programs Center (NPC) will host a charity ball Jan. 13, coinciding with the Charity Preview associated with the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) at Cobo Center here.

This year marks the second annual event for the UAW-Ford NPC, held on the eve of the Detroit auto show's Jan. 14 public opening. The event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. at the UAW-Ford NPC headquarters, 151 W. Jefferson Ave. in Detroit.

Michigan Civil Service Commission approves collective bargaining agreements ratified by state unions Coalition

Today, the Michigan Civil Service Commission approved all five agreements ratified recently by members of the labor organizations that comprise the Coalition of State Employee Unions. Leaders of the five unions – the UAW, SEIU 517M, Michigan Corrections Officers, Michigan State Employees Association and AFSCME Council 25 – were present at the meeting and welcomed the official conclusion to the collective bargaining process.
