"We support President Obama's nomination of Michael Froman as U.S. Trade Representative to replace Ron Kirk, who stepped down in February after serving in the post throughout the president’s first term.

Flex-N-Gate workers at Texas plant join UAW

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Nearly 80 workers at Flex-N-Gate LLC in Arlington, Texas have voted to join the UAW in an election conducted Wednesday by the National Labor Relations Board.

The workers, who voted Wednesday evening at the plant, sequence products for the nearby General Motors Co. Arlington Assembly Plant.

"We are very happy to represent our newest UAW members," said UAW Region 5 Director Gary Jones. "We welcome them to the region and look forward to a fair and equitable agreement for them."

Master Lock workers to demonstrate at shareholder meeting

MILWAUKEE -- UAW Local 469 members will travel to Wheeling, Ill., today where Master Lock's parent company, Fortune Brands Home & Security Inc. (FBHS), will hold its annual shareholder meeting at 3:30 p.m. at the Westin Chicago North Shore, 601 N. Milwaukee Ave.

FBHS is a publicly traded company which sells a wide range of brand name home and security products.

Master Lock workers in Milwaukee plan informational picket

MILWAUKEE -- UAW Local 469 members at Master Lock will hold an informational picket near the company's plant here April 19 at the corner of 32nd and Center streets to encourage management to negotiate a fair contract that rewards their hard work and provides a fair share in the company's success.

About 350 UAW members at Master Lock are working without a contract while both sides meet with a federal mediator.

The UAW commends the bipartisan Gang of 8 for introducing sensible legislation to reform our broken immigration laws. It commends President Obama for his leadership on the issue and for making it a top priority for his administration. While we do not agree with every provision in the bill, it does take important steps forward.

DETROIT – The UAW released this statement today regarding the vote in the House on the Ryan Budget:

“Today House Republicans passed another misguided, draconian budget on a party-line vote. Their plan is even more extreme than the fiscal blueprint on which Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan ran in the fall. The federal budget is a moral document as well as a fiscal blueprint, and the latest budget by House Republicans fails spectacularly on both fronts.
