American & Canadian Unions

Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW)
A site for the auto workers' union that has the same origins as the UAW.

CAW Skilled Trades Web Site
A well-done site jointly produced by local area Councils of the Canadian Auto Workers' Skilled Trades Council. Include trades news, Ontario political information, links, and more.

Coalition of Labor Union Women
The Coalition of Labor Union Women has just gone online with an attractive, well-organized site that keeps you up to date on issues that union women care about. An online form will help you join, and the site can put you in touch with the CLUW chapter nearest you.

International Association of Machinists
The two unions the UAW plans to unify with by the year 2000 are now on-line with lots of info and news. Here's one.

LaborNet
A site full of interesting labor-related information, views and links. Here's where we found some good quotes about workers and labor, for example.

National Education Association
This site, put up by one of the two major unions representing American teachers, includes a cyber-tour of public schools, a resource room for improving education, and "recess," a teachers' collection of funny statements made by kids.

The AFL-CIO's LaborWEB
Includes the AFL-CIO News On-line, a place for Working Women, union research, major union campaigns, a list of anti-union products and services unions are boycotting, and more.

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
This private group includes government, labor and company representatives, and it's put lots of health & safety info on the web, including information on health & safety products and links.

The Union Label - Buying Union
From the AFL-CIO's Union Label and Service Dept., this site gives valuable information about the conditions and countries behind the products we buy (or won't buy), including updates on political action and the AFL-CIO boycott list.

The United Electrical Workers
This is one of three unions representing electrical workers; the other two are in the AFL-CIO. Includes information from Mexico.

The United Mine Workers of America
Includes interesting insights into jobs Mine Workers do, and stories of major Mine Worker events and heroes like Mother Jones.

Union Privilege
Being a union member has its upside off the job, too. This upbeat page shows you how to take advantage of your union status to cash in on big discounts on loans, insurance, travel and consumer products and services.

Unions Belonging to the AFL-CIO
Links to unions that have web pages and belong to this, the major federation of American unions.

United Steel Workers of America
Here's the other. Also includes information on the historical agreement with Bridgestone/Firestone, updated bi-weekly.

Walter P. Reuther Archives of Wayne State University
This isn't a union, but it's where the UAW and other unions -- including locals -- send a gold-mine of historical documents, pictures, etc. Holds interesting labor-related exhibits year-round.
