UAW Wins Product Guarantees, $15 Billion in Potential Investment

A key goal for UAW bargainers during these negotiations was to retain and expand the employment available to UAW members at Chrysler’s U.S. facilities. We succeeded in winning unprecedented guarantees to allocate specific products to specific Chrysler facilities.

These groundbreaking commitments not only protect the jobs of our production, skilled trades, clerical, technical and engineering members, but also maintain economic opportunities in the communities in which Chrysler does business.

Chrysler made binding commitments to continue and/or expand production at six assembly plants, four stamping plants and eight powertrain plants. Our UAW bargaining team also convinced the company to reverse a restructuring plan that would have sold MOPAR and Chrysler Transportation and closed the Cleveland Parts Distribution Center.

The company has identified over $15 billion of potential investment in U.S. plants and facilities during the term of the agreement.

For the first time ever in a national agreement, Chrysler has committed to the UAW that specific vehicles will be built in specific plants. These product commitments protect the jobs of thousands of UAW members at Chrysler. In addition, these commitments will have a positive effect on the employment of thousands of workers at related supplier plants and will help maintain the economic contribution of Chrysler facilities to the local and regional communities in which they are located.

A major component of the proposed agreement is that the UAW bargaining team secured a moratorium on outsourcing for the current core products. These products are committed to UAW Chrysler facilities, as specified below.
