On the second and final day of the convention, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm said the race to the bottom for the lowest wage cannot be won. Jim Doyle, president of the Level Field Institute, gave an in-depth presentation on the critical role auto manufacturing plays in the U.S. job market. Delegates debated the remaining issues before passing the resolution.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick welcomed delegates to the Motor City, saying the UAW helped his grandfather dare to dream. University of California - Berkeley Professor Harley Shaiken says change the rules of globalization, and Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland stood up for working people. Delegates also shared their views from the convention floor.

UAW members from across the United States and Canada are coming together for the union's Special Convention on Collective Bargaining, March 27-28, 2007. The delegates will meet in Detroit — a true UAW town to debate and vote on the union's bargaining agenda for the next four years. Delegates and guests from outside the Detroit area can get acquainted with the downtown area by taking a trip on People Mover. Delegates are also provided with helpful information, including a convention bus schedule, check-cashing assistance and Internet access.
