UAW President Ron Gettelfinger appoints Ron Bieber director of UAW CAP


UAW President Ron Gettelfinger today appointed Ron Bieber director of the UAW Community Action Program (CAP).

Bieber has been an assistant director of the UAW's General Motors Department since March 2003. In that capacity he helped oversee joint programs for UAW active and retired members from GM. Prior to his appointment as assistant director, Bieber was a coordinator in the department. He was appointed to the UAW International Staff in 1992.

A member of UAW Local 730, Bieber joined the UAW when he went to work at GM's Metal Fabrication facility in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1978. He held various elected and appointed positions within the local and has participated in all national negotiations since 1993.

Bieber will take over as head of the union's political action program following the July 31, 2009 retirement of CAP Director Dick Long.

He is the father of three children and lives in Grand Blanc, Mich.
