UAW Indiana CAP endorses Brad Ellsworth for U.S. Senate

The UAW Indiana Community Action Program has unanimously endorsed U.S. Rep. Brad Ellsworth to succeed Evan Bayh in the U.S. Senate.

Indiana CAP, which is funded through voluntary contributions from UAW active and retired members, selected Ellsworth because he will bring more jobs to the Hoosier state, said UAW Region 3 Director Maurice “Mo” Davison.

“Brad Ellsworth will be a fighter for good jobs for people across Indiana,” Davison said. “He’s fought hard for his constituents in his House district on critical issues such as decent jobs, affordable health care, fair trade and workers’ rights.”

Ellsworth, a Democrat who represents the 8th Congressional District in Evansville, Ind., serves on the House’s Agriculture, Armed Services and Small Business committees. The son of a factory worker who put himself through college, he was elected as Vanderburgh County’s sheriff in 1998 and was unopposed for a second term. Before that Ellsworth held every merit rank in the sheriff’s department and was twice decorated for heroism in the line of duty.

“It’s important to elect a worker-friendly candidate to replace Evan Bayh and Brad Ellsworth fits the bill perfectly,” Davison said. “He understands working people and will work hard for Indiana’s working families.”
