DEARBORN, Mich. -- The UAW is partnering with ACCESS to honor Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish with the Walter Reuther Social Justice Award. Abuelaish, a Palestinian doctor and author of the book, "I Shall Not Hate," founded the Daughters for Life Foundation to honor the life and dreams of his three daughters, Bessan, Mayar and Aya, who were killed as his home was shelled in 2009 just two days before the end of Israel's brutal 22-day assault on Gaza.
The UAW will also give a monetary grant to the Daughters for Life Foundation. Dr. Abuelaish will speak at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Dec. 12. The award and grant will be given at that time. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by a book signing.
