A long list of activities for youngsters will be featured at the Camp TAB 2010 Fun Day carnival, Aug. 20 at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 2080 West Grand Blvd., in Detroit.
The Fun Day is the final day of Camp TAB, a community summer day camp sponsored by the church, the UAW and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Youngsters ages 5 through 17 will enjoy a cookout, vehicles from Ford, Chrysler and General Motors, an inflatable moonwalk and slide, a Gospel comedian, and many other fun activities.
The camp, which began Aug. 16, featured healthy living classes, sports, field trips for bowling and roller skating, games, arts and crafts, conflict resolution classes, poetry, Christian studies, UAW history classes and other activities for 174 youngsters.
“The UAW is proud to again co-sponsor this event aimed at providing youngsters with a fun and positive learning experience,” said UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles, who directs the union’s Insurance Department. “It’s been a great two weeks filled with many wonderful activities for the kids.”
“We’re very pleased to be involved with such a positive event for these children,” said Equilla Wainwright, a senior vice president at BCBSM. “Not only did they have a lot of fun, but they received important instruction on topics like conflict resolution and eating healthy.”
Volunteers from the UAW, BCBSM and the church made the camp a reality, said the Rev. Nathan Johnson, pastor at Tabernacle Missionary.
“We can’t thank our sponsors and volunteers enough for their contributions of time, talent and funds,” Johnson said. “Their payment is in the smiles of the children attending the camp.”
